Hello Everyone -

We grabbed some Indian food at our Dom Casimi hotel (we got a 10% discount) and headed for the train station, with no sitting area, lift or escalator. By now you can only imagine our bags weigh a ton (54 lbs - each!), pulling them up and down 3 flights of steep train stairs was quite the challenge. Local people would stop to help and we politely told them "thanks for the offer but these bags are too heavy".
Boarded the night train, with a very grumpy train conductor, in a car full of non-European people, with no food car and silly us, we did not plan well enough and had no water or food. Just as well, as the looks of this train would not make us want to eat anything on board. We had two very small 3 oz water containers that had to last us 8.5 hrs. The train ride was simply awful - noisy, stopping every hour for what appeared to be nothing. Passport control guards came on board at 1am and banged on all the doors to see our passports. After just leaving Auschwitz it was a pretty alarming experience, especially when the guards stopped to peer into our cabin to check "things" out. It was creepy.
Ryan was on the top bunk and sandwiched into the fetal position the entire night. Laurie got up to visit the bathroom at least 6 times and thank goodness for wipies brought from home as there was no toilet paper anywhere on the train - only sandpaper-type paper towels - what a special treat.
Every time Laurie got up she told Ryan, in his dead sleep stupor, that he was "in charge" to keep an eye on the door to ward off the thieves and all was good.
The train broke down about 15 min outside of the train station and they attempted to "change a tire' - it was comical. We pulled into the train station at 7:40am and eventually found our waiting driver who delivered two very exhausted travelers to Hotel U Kocku, located directly in the center of town, 2 blocks from the gorgeous Charles Bridge and views of Prague.
We napped for 4 hrs today, taking a semi-day off to catch up on our sleepless train journey and wait for the crowds to go away. Our room overlooks a cute, yet very bustling town square with the sounds of Prague and bumper crop of crowds everywhere. We highly recommend using Athos Travel, per Rick Steves. The staff was quick to respond to our request and found us a lovely place to stay. Athos Travel:  We'll venture off tonight hoping to find empty streets for good photo opportunities.
Hope all is well with everyone! We enjoy reading your comments along the way.
