After the Blue Mountains I returned to Sydney for a few days. On Friday night I went to Moore Park to see the HSBC Waratahs (Sydney) vs Cheetahs (South Africa) in the Super 14 rugby competition. I was a bit concerned when the local team walked on to the pitch whilst Dire Straits "Money for Nothing" was played over the loudspeakers.... I was hoping for some good entertainment! Fortunately the match was pretty good and Sydney won 23-19.

On Saturday morning I headed over to the Sydney Fish Market, which is the second largest fish market in the world. I sampled a selection of seafood from Doyles take away (much cheaper than the famous restaurant). The blue crab in sweet chilli sauce was definitely the best bit, but the fishcakes, scallops and prawns were all good! I spent the afternoon walking around The Rocks and across the harbour bridge. I also climbed the bridge pylon for a great views of Sydney (free for everybody who does the Bridge climb, and this time I could take a camera!).

My hostel had organised a trip to watch an Aussie Rules football match on Sunday afternoon, so I joined a bunch of tourists who went along to support Sydney Swans with no idea what the rules were. The Swans were playing Port Adelaide and at first it was surprisingly entertaining, especially the comedy backwards throw-ins. The first quarter was quite close, but by half time the Swans had a decent lead and were clearly the better side. The 30 minute quarters meant the whole match took over 2 hours... a long time to sit in the hot sun By the last quarter most of us were busy talking about travels and hardly watching the game. Sydney won 146-78, so we headed back to the hostel bar to enjoy our free beer! Aussie rules was interesting, but it just isn't rugby!
