We traveled several hundred miles through Patagonia and there really isnīt much here! Unlike in the UK, it is very easy to get away from civilisation. As you travel along the roads there are no walls, hedges, farms or villages.... just acres of grass and plenty of sheep. Talking of which, the roast lamb is really good.
Fortunately it is summer down here so we have been quite lucky with dry weather, but our journey down to the "End of the World" was very windy. Iīve had enough of trying to sleep in tents when there are gale force winds outside, so I was pleased to get a roof over my head in Ushuaia.
Ushuaia is the southern most city in the world, but the term city seems quite generous. It was really a one-street town of souvenir and duty free shops, and not a lot else. It is however only 1000km from Antarctica, so there were several cruise ships visiting the port. I would have really liked to have gone out to Antarctica, but is is too expensive at the moment.
We went for a boat trip on the Beagle channel to visit the lighthouse and also the sea lion and bird colonies. We had booked to go on a sailing boat, but unfortunately the weather forecast of light winds changed into really high winds so we ended up in a motor boat. It was still a nice day out.

Hehe
It's funny seeing Ushuaia in the summer - when I was down there it was freezing.
It sounds like you weren't too impressed with the area - I loved it but I think the difference was that we drove across Tierra Del Fuego in a car! Now that's an adventure in the winter and made Ushuaia all the more appealing when we got there... ;-)
