We arrived as Beijing was waking up, it was a surreal morning to see the Chinese people on their way to work by bicycle carrying thier work on thier backs.  The weather was humid and overcast. The flight was comfortable and shorter then expected.  The airport was a pleasant surprise, clean and efficient.

We are staying in a modern hotel in a working class neighborhood with not many tourist attractions nearby, fortunately a taxi cab in to the city center is not hard to find and very inexpensive.  We spent the morning exploring the area surrounding our hotel, and later we went to Wangfujing St. and to the night market.  At the night market vendors sell food ranging from worms to dumplings.  I had the dumplings, kyle had to worms.  After wards we caught a cab and went to Santilan St. or the bar street, where we did a little bar hopping and tried some Chinese beer.  We wondered around afterward through the hutongs, they gave a charming look into old Beijing.

Today is Sunday and we are off to Tia'man Square, forbidden city, and the summer palace.  We're having a great time and hope to send pictures on our next blog. and the beer is good.-Kyle
