Today is my birthday, and we are happily ensconced in a luxury apartment overlooking the yacht basin in Punta del Este, Uruguay.  Punta, as it's called here, is the most exclusive resort in South America, and a favorite of international jet-setters.
Of course, high season in Punta is January and February, and we are here in late fall.  But it's still a beautiful place.  When we arrived last Friday, it was Indian Summer and warm.  Today, it is Fall and a little cooler, but sunny and gorgeous.
To visualize Punta, think a mix of the new beach resorts along Florida's Panhandle (Seaside and Watercolor) with some glamourous high-rises from Miami/Ft. Lauderdale.  And behind the high-rises lining most of the beaches are some neighborhoods reminiscent of Winter Park.

Our apartment here is a big step up from the one in Buenos Aires, the small studio that Barbara dubbed the "shoebox in the sky."  This apartment is beautifully decorated and MUCH larger.

In addition to the yacht basin across the street, there are several nearby restaurants to keep us well-fed.

But staying fed is not really a problem.  The apartment comes with a maid who cooked a great birthday dinner from a recipe that Barbara found.
In short, this is a great place to spend my birthday.

Re: What a Birthday!
Hello, John and Linda. Glad you are enjoying the blog.

California tour sounds great. I have only been to San Fran and Sonoma, but loved it. We will look forward to hearing about your trip.

I don't know if I'll do more with the photos. We took 1200 pictures in Mexico, 1700 in Argentina, and 750 so far in Uruguay. I download and sort them every few days, but going through +4000 pictures to make a slide show will take time. Of course, since real estate development is dead, I guess I have a little extra time.

And yes, Barbara is VERY good for me.

See you soon.
