I arrived in San Francisco a few days ago, I nearly didn't make it due to the piece of crap alarm clock I bought off the street in Mexico City stopping in the middle of the night. Bit of a rush to get dressed in time for my cab to take me to the airport.

The day before yesterday, my Mum and I took a boat across to Alcatraz. We paid for the audio tour which was really interesting. Everyone looks so stupid wondering around with the big headsets on though. The cells in the prison are tiny. Got to see the cell where Al Capone was held.

I have been running low on books (most of them I've read and given away), so we went round various book stores yesterday. There are some really good second hand ones here, one of them is 4 floors high and has mostly everything you're looking for, I was kicking myself for giving all my books away as I could have traded them in for new (second hand) ones Bay Bridge through window

. I think I've about doubled the weight of my bag now, hopefully that'll last me until I get to New Zealand.

My old work friends are arriving from Vegas some time this afternoon. Looking forward to having some company my own age and some people to hit the town with. My friend Chris is getting married to an American girl here on Sunday. I have booked into the same hotel as all the others for the night of the wedding.

We're staying in a neighbourhood with some really big houses, a lot of them are all decorated up for Halloween. I will have to get some pictures, they look really amazing. Huge pumpkins, ghosts hanging from the trees, flashing lights, one house has filled their front lawn with fake gravestones. Very over the top but quite cool at the same time.
