In a last minute thing we booked our bus tickets from Denver down to El Paso, right on the Mexican border. 15 hours in total. We had just a few hours to pack up our stuff and get back to the bus station.
Upon arrival in El Paso we had to catch another bus that would take us over the border into Mexico and onto Chihuahua, our stop over before heading up to the Copper Canyons. When we arrived in El Paso the onward bus was sitting there waiting to leave, we quickly bought our tickets and boarded the bus. By the time we reached Chihuahua we had been on buses for pretty much 24 hours with no break.
Chihuahua is an unremarkable city with not much to see, but has some nice restaurants, bars, and cafes. At dusk the sky is full of thousands and thousands of birds, as dark falls they return to one particular street to perch on the telephone wires. Itīs really funny walking up the street, every wire covered with these small birds.
The hotel we are staying in is basic and cheap, about 3 pounds each a night.
One thing that baffled us all is we didnīt have to show our passports to cross the border into Mexico, weīve subsequently found out that this may cause some problems when leaving the country (especially for me returning to the USA) so will need to try to get this sorted out at the embassy in Mexico City. How bloody stupid, letting someone enter your country without even asking to see their passport.
