so woke up the morning in Oslo to a light snow, that was pretty. headed to the train station and caught a train that was heading to bergen with my first stop being Myrdal which was about 2 or 3 hours in. brief comments exchanged with some people that were also on the same tour. got off there and we connected with the Flam railway which is a very small and private scenic railway that zigzags down through 20 tunnels through the mountain down to Flam Fjord. really amazing and beautiful...and probably even more breath taking in the summer!!! but fantastic nonetheless!  then at the bottom we had a boat to catch but had about 45 mins to do whatever. while everyone else headed inside for food and what not....i had been helping myself to my groceries i was smart enough to buy the night before. i went off to the tip of the landing that overlooked the water and was the base of the fjords...AMAZING!! i was completely emotionally overcome at the beauty and realization that i was doing this...was sitting there enjoying it and taking photos when two guys came up and started chatting with me.  Andreas from Salzburg, Austria and Sasha from Germany. i made a little snowman and Sasha finished off his facial features. yes i do have pics...eventually ha.  then Andreas walked on his own and Sasha and i kept walking around and ended up going up the moutian a clip and found this old army bunker and great view, then walked some more and then had to catch the Sasha was saying in Germany they are very timely and will many times leave early so you have to mind your time.

so on this boat ride it was completely amazing, about an hour or so riding through the fjord...which flam is the longest one in Norway. while Sasha decided to warm up i went up to the top deck and there was Andreas...who asked me almost immediately...what are your parents. i said well, they are my adoptive parents but they are Swedish-German-Irish-Scottish, yada...he says no...your parents...what are you, you look like you have some black in you and i say yes, i believe my mother was white and father was black. he says but you don't know more? it is every persons right to know more? anyway this conversation went on and surprisingly i was rather open with him where most of you know i sooo am not...well turns out he tells me he's a psychologist. and as we are talking he says that it is important for everyone to know their history and where the come from because otherwise they are not able to settle down and successfully raise families, etc. something to that affect...and of course he has me in tears by this point as it is hitting home a bit to much for me. and had said just before this that i am not interested in finding out what the story is with them as i have a certain fantasy in my head that i am not sure i want to know the reality. this is where he said it is important for everyone to know the reality good or bad. yada, yada. basically he read me like a book and knew that this trip was much more to me than many may realize or for that matter that i myself realized. anyway, so move on to other topics and enjoy the view.

we then catch a bus to Voss for the train to bergen. i am sitting in the back with these two guys and Sasha is saying there is a train at 1735 and we get in at 1732, but my itinerary for the tour says train is at we get to the voss station and the train is there, and i grab Andreas coat for him from up above and we take off for the train. we get to the train and Andreas realizes hes left something....Sasha and i are standing in the door hoping he will make it as the conductor is getting close to blowing the whistle.  Andreas comes back and makes it says his hat was bad as i didn't see it. so we are going to find seats and i realize CRAP!!! i have an awe fully light load my backpack is still under the buss!!!! run to the nearest door just seconds later it closes! get my lonely backpack, walk to the station laughing at myself and past this Polish or Russian couple and they say i thought you were on that train?  hahaha, yeah until i realized i left 3 months of my life behind!!! and now i will be remembered as the American that almost forgot her backpack!!!

so waiting around for the next train, i started chatting again with this couple that i had seen along the way, they gave me some information for hotels in bergen as i did not have a reservation. found out they were father and daughter from Turkey! she is getting married end of may and is the only daughter and father has not come to grips with this quite yet and she does really want to have a wedding as she has been dating the guy for so many years she says she is just doing it for her father.
anyway, take the train with them to bergen , once there we both head in the same direction as i had an address to Sasha's hostel that was on same road as their hotel, i ended up leading the way as they were not sure where they were going, ha. so i end up just trying there hotel and notice it was one i had seen on the Internet Jacobs apartments/ so i got a room in the dorm part which turned out to be a shared dorm with men and women! haha. but then met them a few minutes later and we walked about town and found a place to have a drink....the Tiki Bar.  those two were quite funny and enjoyed my time with them. so off to bed and told them that i was going to do my own thing in the morning and probably sleep in as i was a bit tired, but would probably seem them in town but for sure on the train to Oslo.
