Happy St. Paddy's Day - March 17th
Entry 10 of 80 | show all | print this entry |
so we drove from Galway to Sligo and made it in time for the 12p parade in Sligo! What fun! Cute little town, will try to get you some uploaded pics. Loads of cute red-headed kids and everyone out enjoying the finally sunny day! Little different than the parade in the mini town we stumbled upon days earlier, but still fun nonetheless to see the whole town and then some come out for the event!
We then made our way towards out of Sligo and headed towards a B&B that mom and dad thought they had booked in a little town in Co. Leitrim....had to get directions to the place from a local pub....interesting directions were given, and they wanted to know why i wasn't staying for a pint!!....found the B&B, however, nobody answered the door even though there were cars park outside! we tried at 4p, 4:30p and 5p, nothing, then i had to use a bathroom, so we headed back into the little town and found a pub and went in and asked if they had rooms as well, and undertaker was at the bar and we chatted (he was from the Bronx) and tried to tell me Mrs. Mc? and Mrs. Mc? would surely have rooms for us, but right now everyone was at a funeral in the other room and he also wanted to know why i wasn't staying for a pint..."where's your chauffeur, surely you can have a pint?!" haha
needless to say we made out way out of that town to try to find something before dark and stumbled across a lovely little place owned by a German couple up-top a hill overlooking the mountains (Mountain View) and it had a lovely view of the sunset and a great Clydesdale type horse. We took it and had the whole upstairs apartment to ourselves. Now to find dinner. We drove into Dowra....hahahah, nothing was open of course as it was St. Paddy's day and Bank Holiday....went into a Pub that said they were serving food....every head in there turned as we walked in asking about food....."no, not today, just crisps and such"....clearly they were not interested in eating on that sacred day! hahaha, so we drove a bit and found this random place that was the tiniest bar and "grocery" store...as dad was walking in to check it out, a local said to the shop keep....I'm hoping i can find my way home..hahahaha, glad we weren't on the road same time as him! so we did best we could for dinner supplies.....what did you have for St. Paddy's day dinner Rita? -- hot cross buns, "cheese spread", snow cakes, sodas....hahaha, yum!!!!
hahahahah.
