Chris and I were fortunate enough to be invited out to another on Monday night. This time it was a fundraiser for Susan Templeman, the Labor candidate for the Macquarie electorate of NSW.
Macquarie is one of the most marginal seats in this year's federal election, so it's one of the
The dinner was held at a great Greek restaurant in town called The Athenian, and the guest of honour was Wayne Swan, the Deputy Prime Minister.
Over several delicious courses several entertaining speeches were made, including by Wayne Swan, Bob Carr (ex Premier of NSW), Ged Kearney (ACTU president) and of course the very charismatic Susan Templeman herself. It was a great night out, fingers crossed Susan will get elected.
The following day we were back on the campaign trail again, this time in the town of Penrith.
The first stop was Napean hospital, where the nurses union hosted a barbecue. Unlike yesterday's they took a risk with the weather and decided to hold it outdoors. When we arrived it was bucketing down and it looked like the whole thing would be a wash-out, but fortunately within about 10 minutes the weather dried up and around 100 people turned up for a sausage and more anti Workchoices
So fortunately it went from wash-out to pretty well-attended and got some media coverage. It also ran a bit over-schedule though, which meant we were a tad late for the next appointment - lunch at the Penrith Panthers stadium. It was another ALP fundraiser - this time for the seat of Lindsay, hosted by the local MP David Bradbury. And the special guest was again, Wayne Swan - two meals with the Deputy PM in two days! We missed the entree and most of the speeches but lunch was delicious and exactly what we needed to refuel before rushing off to the next appointments.
These were at Penrith train station, where we met with and had more cake with train drivers and guards, and finally Blacktown train station, where we did the same - and finally finished the cake!
