We arrived in Cairns, our last stop before heading off to the red centre, after a long 12 hours on the Greyhound bus from Airlie Beach. We opted for the small and friendly hostel called Travellers Oasis which was owned by Gabriel. He knew how to get everyone to have a good time and on Monday nights was his BBQ night at his sister hostel up the road. For 10 bucks we got a heap of salad and meats including Beef, Emu, Kangaroo and Croc. After the feast he pulled 4 names out of the hat (all our names were in it!) and those 4 were automatically entered into a didgaridoo competition alongside sampling a witchity grub! Luckily it was bbq-ed, but still didn't look too attractive! Anyway, praise the gods it wasn't me that was chosen, but guess who the gods smiled on... yup Rhona! Out of the 4 I reckon she did the best at playing the didgeridoo, and probably the gutsiest at eating the grub too. However, although the winner got a T-shirt they also had to have another grub and the audience chose a worthier winner to eat the grub... another person who spat his first one out already. He wasn't allowed to spit this one out and forced the rubbery larva down the gullet!

A great night and glad I didn't have to eat the grub!! :-)

To come to Cairns and not go to Cape Tribulation is a crime, so we packed our bags for a 2 night trip up to the Cape...
