From Machu Picchu we took the return train to Cusco and then, after staying another night at Casa Residencial Lecaros (very nice and friendly place) we took the train to Puno.

The train ride was very pleasant and took about 8 hours and we bumped into some fellow trekkers we met in Ecuador, Vilcabamba... Sam and Diedre. We stayed a night in Puno and the next day went on a day trip to the floating (Uros) islands. These were great to see and we first arrived on Kontiki island (this is where the expertise was gained for making the reed raft in the Kontiki expedition) and were given a little demonstration of how the islands were built and the history of the Uros islands. After this (and some artisan shopping!) we went to the next island on a huge reed boat and then headed off to Copacobana by bus (not the Brazilian one, but the Bolivian one!!).
