After the having numerous photos with one foot on either side of the equator, we went for a trek up the near Pululahua volcano where there lived a whole community in the crater at the top. During the last erruption (many years ago), the cone collapsed and formed the 5km squared flat crater, which iss surrounded on all sides by 400 meters mountain walls. The local indigenous folk there are completely without electricity, gas, telephone etc... but they live pretty happily with just livestock and growing vegetables/fruit which they live on and sell once a week at the local market. The views were spectacular as we looked down from 400 metres up at the farmhouses and land. Apparently in 2004 the volcano was pronounced active again, so there could be another big erruption anytime soon. Well, after that it was another 1.5 hours bussing it back to Quito after a fairly long day.

On the 2nd April it's off to Otavalo for the markets and then to the lagoon for another few days for horseriding and trekking.

Bye for now.
