Hola muchos peoples, (my spanish is great, isn't it)

So, one week in Quito and my Spanish is coming on leaps and bounds... Yo necessito hablar espanol, por que yo bibo muchos cervezas...!

Anyway, enough of that... the next lesson is on Monday and Sandra (our teacher) will be expecting progress from last time.. practice required tonight.

The last few days have been interesting and we've been to various places. The food market "Mercado Central" was great as bits of unrecognisable flesh was being sold everywhere. The smell was bad. However, we decided to risk typhoid (we've both been jabbed anyway) and eat at one of the stalls on the other side of the market upstairs from the strange meat vendors. Great food for a great price. Still feeling healthy.

Today we've just come back from the TeleferiQo, which was a sky tram going up to the nearest active and dormant volcano: Pichincha. It was an interesting journey to the TeleferiQo itself across most of up-hill Quito, with myself and Rhona sweating (sorry... Rhona has just pointed out she was glowing). Finally we arrived and got on the sky tram up to the top. If Quito was high, this was even higher... 4,100 metres. The view over Quito was amazing (photos attached). I especially liked the sign saying "Over 4,100m. Caution - Don't run". I decided rules were there for the breaking, and ran up the nearest hill only to stop and almost vomit. Won't be doing that again! I think a bit more acclimitisation and fitness is needed.

That's been the recent news, apart from the arrival of Rhona's luggage which appeared 3 days ago... Good old BA.

Right, this week is Spanish class again and the following week (proxima semana) it's off to the jungle for a 4 day trek and hopefully the lagoons in the mountains.

Hasta la semana,

Tom.

PS: All accent symbols on computer not working.... just in case you notice!
