Finally made it to Quito after 32hrs travelling, using 3 different airlines. Unfortunately, although my luggage made it safely from London to Quito, Rhona's luggage seems to have gone AWOL and is having a lovely time in (we suspect... to be confirmed later today) Miami airport. Unsure as to why, but fingers crossed it turns up soon!

Quito is a busy city and it's taking a little while to get used to the high altitude (9300 ft), but it's been fun trying to get the locals to understand me. The last few meals have been quite entertaining as I've had no idea what I've ordered and been pleasantly surprised so far. However, my good luck can only go so far... so Spanish lessons are booked for tomorrow. 2 weeks should be enough to get by asking for food, beer and the important phrase, "please don't shoot me, Mr Mugger".

All is going to plan and I'll get some photos on the blog soonish after I've done some trekking up the local mountains (when I've mastered the hostel stairs without wheezing), and visited a lagoon or two (the plan for the next few days).

Right.... off to have a chilled Pilsner.

¡El asaltante, no me tira por favor!
I think that's the anti-mugging phrase you need.. :)
Have you got the luggage back and is the wheezing easing up? Photos, photos, photos ;)
