Up in time this morning to catch the 20min ferry ride from just outside the camp - straight into Venice. Walked through some of the streets until we found a couple of Gondoliers plying their trade in a side canal. Had a fantastic Gondola ride 'off the main tourist track' in what our Gondolier called the 'real' Venice. Lots of little narrow canals, buildings with their front steps submerged and cute arched bridges. Back on land we wandered the streets navigating our way to the Rialto Bridge. Spent a bit of time in the local shops, buying up Murano glass trinkets. Continued on to St Marco's Square, which (like the rest of Venice really) was absolutely packed with people. Quick bite of our picnic lunch in the shade, then some more wandering. Were glad we hadn't opted for one of the more popular gondola rides on the main canal, as it didn't look all that inviting really - plenty of Japanese tourist to fill that role anyway!. Had some more Gelato, and then wandered back to the ferry and the ride home. Michelle's delicious past for tea.
