Short trip into nearby Lucca today to meet up with Chris and Maureen who had flown over from UK for a few days and were staying nearby.  Had a coffee in the central piazza before hiring bikes and riding 'round the town walls - very pleasant.  Lunch in the piazza (pizza's of course!), before wandering the pretty streets and looking in the quaint shops.  Returned to our car to find it had been broken into!  Passenger side window smashed and bag with laptop and other things pinched - in broad daylight too . .   Soured our view of Lucca somewhat as you could imagine.  Feverish series of phonecalls to Peugeot Open Europe (lease company), who weren't particularly helpful.  I went 'round to the local police station, and spent a while trying to explain what had happened - plenty of miming as they didn't speak very much English at all (and my Italian consisted of 'please', 'thankyou' and 'can I have half a litre of red wine?'!!!) Left a copy of my driver's licence and vowed to return with all the apropriate documentation to complete the police report.  Mobile phones nearly flat (chargers were stolen too) so went to Chris and Maureen's hotel who were helpful with phone.  Finally managed to get name of glass company, and an appointment on Monday to fix? window.  Returned to camp a bit dejected . . .
