Trekking the Andes
That little slice of heaven! We went to Huaraz with one intention only. Trekking the Andes!! Having heard so many amazing reports of the area we had to get down here and check it out for ourselves (despite our lack of time for Peru). The place does NOT disappoint!!! Simply put: Amazing! And I think the pics will speak for themselves on that. Day One I was unfortunate enough to get hit with a bout of food poisoning (seems to be a bit of a thing that when ever we set off on a major trek or the like either one of us will get sick... at least we alternate!). And also our mules didn´t show up until too late and it poured with rain, so I ended up sick, cold, wet, and we had to camp in a futbol field outside of the first town as we did not have time to make it to the actual camp. Fun, fun, fun...
Fortunately things picked up from there on, and as my stomach slowly improved the trek improved out of sight! Taking us through some of the most scenic terrain that I have seen since being in the Canadian Rockies. Day 2 had us climbing the pass (just under 5000M) and taking in breath-taking views of glaciers and mountainous Andes ranges. We camped in the most amazing camp spot I have ever seen. I also got hit with altitude sickness which took some of the joy out of the occasion, but was right again in time to watch the beautiful sunset. All in all another fantastic trek and all in for about 90 bucks (including gear, guide, food for 4 days). Highly recommended! Check the pics...
Now time to hit the desert to remember the old Fernie days (no... not dry and hot!), only in the sand... Sand Boarding Baby!!! Peace, Love, Mark More thumbnails ...
