We are pleased with our stop in Vianden.  But we need to travel to Heerlen tonight, so we pour over the maps to investigate our options.  We decide that we like Luxembourg so much we'd like to see as much of it as we can (and we don't want to re-trace our path at all) so we decide to go north through Luxembourg and out its northern tip into Belgium, then on to Heerlen.

We are happy with our decision.  The countryside continues to charm the socks off us as we pass through it on the narrow two lane road.  I like travelling that road - the slower pace makes me feel immediacy with the countryside as we wind our way around bends, up and down hills and valleys and through groves of trees.  (After we get home, I watch the movie "George and the Dragon" and am pleased to discover that it was shot in Luxembourg.)

We finally pass into Belgium at Wemperhardt and a few km later we get onto the E42 at Sankt Vith.  Those few K's of Belgium were also charming.  Gary says the buildings there, particularly the houses, appear more German than Belgian.  We keep on the E42 to just after Vervier, then take the E40 east to Aachen (Germany), circle it and follow the E314 to Heerlan.  Although I am showing Aachen as the location of this entry, but we actually end at Heerlan, but we will be there for a couple days and it will appear in those entries.
