October 10th:We left Kathmandu at 7:00 am for a six hour bustrip to Pokhara. The first stretch of road from Kathmandu to Naubise is in average condition, it's excellent from Naubise to Pokhara, with the exeption of a 20km stretch around Dumre. Underway you have goods views because of the mountainious surroundings. When we arrived we were 'attacked' by taxidrivers who wants to give us a ride. We (me and an Australian tourist) took a taxi to bring us to Himalayan Encounters. In the evening we had a group meeting a dinner in a local restaurant with some groupmembers.
Pokhara is the most popular destination in Nepal after Kathmandu. It's fame rest on the natural beauty of its lakeside location and its proximity to the mountains, not on a great historical or cultural endowment.
October 11th:
We left Pokhara with a group of five tourists and the rest of the group (22 in total) excist of guides, cooks, sherpa's and porters. After a half hour busrite we reached the starting point and trekked up along side the Mardi Khola river. We passed friendly villages, terraced fields and rhododendron forest to reach Sikles (1800 m) where we will spent the night. After a fine dinner we decided to take a rest in our tents but everybody, exept me, was attacked by leeches.
October 12th: we were waked at 6:00 by one of the guides with a cup of tea. We start walking at 8:00 am to reach Tara's Top. The first two hours are pretty heavy and we make the steep climb up to Tara's Top at 3025 m. We reached
Tara's Top at 11:30 and this is the vantage point for spectacular views that include most of the Annapurna massif. We didn't had a clear sky when we arrived so we jumped into our tents to have a rest. After dinner we played cards and we went to bed early because tomorrow will be another heavy day.
October 13th: we were waked at 6:00 am with a nice cup of tea again. The view was not that good because we didn't had a clear sky. Our return journey follows a wholly
different route. This is a trail roughly following the 2500 m contour through shady forest of rhododendron hung heavy with lichen and moss, wild flowers and wild orchids. On the way down I slipped on the moss, felt on my arm and my shoulder was dislocated (pretty painful). Finaly we descend steeply to Bhurjung Khola village, where we camped near a little school with now distant views of Machupuchare. I took some painkillers and felt asleep.
October 14th: today we had to croos some rivers and one of the porters helped me by carrying my rucksack. We arrived our campingsite at
14:30 pm and we had some sunbathing in front of our tents.
October 15th:today we followed the tumbling stream to the edge of the Pokhara valley to be met by transport which will returned us to the lakeside. I returned to hotel Mountain inn to use a normal toilet and shower which I missed the last five days. In the evening we had a Nepalese dinner and party with the rest of our group. The locals were singing
Nepalese songs and we were dancing on Nepalese music.
October 16th: after a breakfast at a Tibetan teahouse I walked to the Phewa lake. Me a some other groupmembers decided to hire a boat to make a boattrip around the lake. We also had a drink in the Amsterdam Bar and meet the other groupmembers. Our last dinner will be in the Everest steakhouse tonight.
October 17th: I got up early to visit Sagarnot but the sky wasn't clear so I decided to visit Sagarnot tomorrow. I booked a busticket for Chitwan N.P. and had some relaxing hours on the terrace of the Amsterdam Bar.
October 18th: at 6:00 am I took a taxi to Sagarnot. The sky was very clear and after a steep climb I arrived at the first view point. The second one is much higher and steeper so I decided to leave because I don't want to take any risk with my shoulder. On my way back a Nepalese lady offered my a cup of tea in a souvenirshop trying to sell me some souvenirs. Despite of her great smile I didn't bought anything.
Where I stayed:
Mountain Hill
