Today I took a bus to Khajuraho (five hours) and I was the only tourist in the bus. I arrived in Khajuraho at 16.00 pm and took a room in hotel Surya for 275 rp per night. In the evening I had a dinner at Raja's cafe which is in front of the temple complex. I also saw the sound and light show at the western temples. The show documents the history and culture of Khajuraho over the past 4000 years.
The temples of Khajuraho are deservedly one of India's major attractions. Once a great Chandela capital, Khajuraho is now a small village. The temples
are superb examples of Indo-Aryan architecture, but it's the decorations with which they are so liberally embellished that have made Khajuraho famous. Around the temples are bands of exceedingly artistic stonework showing many aspects of Indian life a millennium ago-gods and goddeless warriors and musicians, real and mythological animals. But two elements appear over and over in greater detail than anything else-women and sex.Stone figures of naked, posing apsaras (heavenly nymphs)appear on every temple. In between are the mithuna(carved erotic figures), running through whole Kamasutra
The next day I visited the Western, Eastern and Southern group of temples by daylight. A very relaxing place with a lot of friendly people. There is also a restaurant in the main street with a Dutch sign on the roof "betrouwbaar eten" (what means "reliable food").
