Sawasdee Krub!

On this day, after another hearty breakfast at our hotel, we decided to walk to the Surasak Skytrain station, only a short 10  minute walk, for a ride into the Pathumwan district, where the heart of Bangkok's shopping is located!  Getting off at Central Station, we exited into Siam Square, noted for its small store fronts and where bargains can be had!  Not too far away are the larger shopping malls of MBK Center, Zen and Central World.  Here, the prices are non-negotiable but you're more likely buying the real brand name.

As we walked around, exploring the area, we couldn't help notice that shrines were erected throughout the city honoring Buddha.  In addition, large pictures of Thailand's former Royal Family could also be spotted along streets.  These seemed to reinforce the strength of their religious beliefs and pride of their historical background!

From here, we hopped onto another skytrain line heading north to Victory Monument in the Ratchathewi district.  This huge monument, representing those Thai soldiers who gave their lives fighting for their country is located in the middle of a large roundabout where the roads of Ratchawithi, Phayathai and Phahon Yothin meet Siam Square Shopping District !

.  We also explored the shopping area of the Fashion Mall and Center One!

As it was late afternoon, we opted to head back to Silom Rd and avoid the local rush hour.  The skytrain moved quickly and within 20 minutes, we rode one skytrain line and connected with another at the Central Station interchange and found ourselves getting off at Sala Daeng Station on Silom Rd.  A quick and easy way to get around Bangkok!

Along Silom Rd, there were numerous street vendors and day markets to attract the passerby.   Today was more about browsing instead of shopping and interacting with the locals.   The Thai people all seem to be courteous and hard workers and where ever we went, we were often greeted with a smile!

Tomorrow, we depart Bangkok, the "City of Angels" for Thailand's "Pearl of the South", Phuket!
