G'Day Mates!

I should clarify, William Shakespeare had no influence on this entry and his play "A Midsummer Night's Dream" has no relation with this entry "A Midwinter Day's Reality" ! First off, William Shakespeare was a scholar, I'm just a bloke who loves drinking wine! Shakespeare's play is about a romantic comedy, Elsie and I are just funny looking! Shakespeare's setting is England, ours is DownUnder! Shakespeare wrote A Midsummer Night in the mid 1590's while Elsie and I danced to Culture Club's "Karma Chameleon" in the mid 1980's! How much different can we be to Shakespeare's characters?

On this day however, we enjoyed a lovely winter's afternoon at Scarborough Beach! Families came out too, to enjoy the mild afternoon. Still, in the midst of winter, the beach scene can offer a range of fashion with people wearing shorts to jeans, flip flops (thongs) to ugg boots, budgie smugglers & bikinis to board shorts, t-shirts to hoodies!

This afternoon, the ocean swells were larger than usual, producing large waves with a thunderous sound as they rolled over! Maybe this is where the term "Thunder from DownUnder" originated from? These waves can be heard very distinctly in the evening from our apartment.

This past week, we experienced some of the coolest temperatures that winter could produce here! The morning temp's got as low as 1C! Brrrrr! Subsequently, these low temps forced Rick to abandon his shorts and wear long pants for his morning outing to the gym. On the other hand, high temps rose to 16C! Brrrr! Can you believe that? No wonder people here 'hightail it' to the heat of Bali from June to August! As Canadians, we never thought we would say 16C was cool! Normally, those temp's would have us leading the charge to the beach! No worries though as warmer temp's are on the way!

However, this winter, Scarborough has been blessed with a few sightings of Southern Right Whales just off the beach! Having gone whale watching down south a few weeks ago, seeing these huge mammals so close is a bonus!

In the interim, we'll stay warm by cuddling close together and keeping a glass of Aussie wine within arms length! Who knows, maybe we'll find another wine festival to visit!

Cheers, Rick & Elsie!
