Being AC/DC fans for years, we couldn't pass up the opportunity to visit the Bon Scott Project currently on display at the Fremantle Arts Center. Bon, as AC/DC fans know, was the Aussie bands initial lead singer, who died February 19th, 1980 at 33 yrs of age! Bon also called the port city of Fremantle home! So, missing this exhibition would be like going to Memphis and not visiting Graceland! Apparently, Bon Scott's gravesite at the Fremantle cemetary is the most visited grave in Australia!
Fremantle has done a superior job of retaining old settler buildings and facades and renovating their interiors for purposeful modern use! The Fremantle Arts Center is no different as this landmark building was Western Australia's first purpose-built lunatic asylum, erected in 1864

. This probably explains the "uncontrolled impulses" and sense of "paranoia" we experienced walking through the exhibition! Just kidding!!As we toured "The Bon Scott Project", we noticed the exhibits were few but interesting! Some artwork, prints and posters were displayed around the Arts Center showing Bon and his fans! Some of Bon's written letters to his friends, family and wife were interesting to read! Reading them brought the reader closer to the mind of this rock'n roll icon and the direction his lifestyle was leading toward!
After leaving the Arts Center, the Fremantle Market, home to some great fruit and veggies was just a short drive away. Who could pass that up! The onset of sunset had us make a short drive to catch a Fremantle sunset near the fisherman's marina! Before heading home, we couldn't leave Freo without a fish and chip dinner at Clancy's Fish Pub!
All in all, we had a rather ecclectic afternoon of arts, markets, shopping and sunset, finishing at a pub for beer and food! Excellent!!!
