G'Day Tennis Fans!

On a warm summer evening where the majority of fans at Rod Laver Arena anticipated another Roger Federer win, his opponent Novak Djokovic had other plans!  Federer had a 19 match winning streak at the Australian Open going into tonights match and 10 straight Grand Slam Finals appearances.  Unfortunately, these streaks came to an end tonight as Djokovic won a shocking three set victory over the World's #1 player and reigning Australian Open champion!  Although Federer had the crowd support behind him, he played an average game while Djokovic played with determination!  Now, Djokovic plays Jo Wilfried Tsonga for the Mens Open Championship!  Both players are power hitters and the match should be exciting!

The first match of the afternoon featured the Womens Doubles Final between Ukrainian sisters Alona and Kateryna Bondarenko against Victoria Azarenka (Belarus) and Shahar Peer (Israel).   The World #1 Bondarenko sisters started slow losing the first set but regrouped to win the last two to win the match convincingly!  The Bondarenko's looked overwhelmed with excitement during the awards ceremony as they claimed the winners cheque and trophy!  Congratulations Alono and Kateryna!

A break between matches gave us some time to take a leisure walk along the Yarra River from Rod Laver Arena to Federation Square and Southbank. These areas are always a buzz of activity with street and stage performers entertaining the crowds!  Southbank also offers spectacular city views and an ecclectic mix of restaurants which attracted us this afternoon!

Women's Finals Up Next!  Sharapova vs Ivanovic!  Stay Tuned!  Rick & Elsie!
