G'Day Tennis Fans! Opening day of the Australian Open began with first day jitters as we didn't get off at the right train station (Rick's fault) for Melbourne Park and unexpectedly took a ride around the city loop! Perhaps all those people dressed up like tennis fans should've been a clue! The great news is, we finally got to Melbourne Park, home of the Vodafone Arena where we spent our day!

The first match ended up being a 3 hour, 10 minute emotional rollercoaster which had all the high's and low's you would expect in a women's match! There were water breaks, toilet breaks, eating breaks and rest breaks from the heat! And that was just Elsie and I. The players had lot's of breaks too! The players even added their own medical breaks. Anyway, Jelena Jankovic (ranked #3) for the tournament, outlasted her Austrian opponent Tamira Paszek to win in three sets. The final set score was 12-10. Not your usual tennis score!

The second match saw popular American Andy Roddick (ranked #6) beat Czech Lucas Dlouhy in three straight sets! Roddick is always a fan favourite, mostly for the young women and older cougars!

The third match had last years Australian Open runner-up Maria Sharapova of Russia (ranked #5) play Jelena Kostanic-Tosic of Croatia. Sharapova won in two straight sets!

The day was long with 8+ hours of tennis watched! This was harder than a full days work! But then again, when did I ever put in an 8 hour work day!!

One day down, thirteen to go!

Game On! Rick & Elsie!
