Happy New Year Everyone!!  The first day of the year saw the restart of the fourth leg of the Clipper 2007-08 Round the World Yacht Race!  With the reminents of cyclone Melanie bringing a very warm, cloudy and muggy day to Perth from the North West of WA, the conditions were less than ideal for those who celebrated into the wee hours of New Years morning!  In addition, the light winds were not favourable for sailing either, prolonging the agony of those recovering from hangovers!  However, for those like Elsie and I who were not hungover but merely sleep deprived, the grassy knoll along the beach offered a comfortable area to catch up on some shuteye!  If it wasn't for those pesky black flies!

With the yachts leaving the Fremantle harbour early in the afternoon to begin the next leg of the race, they raced along the coast at what appeared to be a snails pace!  The course brought the boats down the coast about 20 kms to the tall ship Leeuwin II, where it was positioned in front of the Rendezvous Hotel at Scarborough Beach Leeuwin II waiting at Scarborough !!

As the yachts approached the Leeuwin II, the masts came down and the gybing and tacking were spectacular as they made the turn around the Leeuwin and headed North West to Singapore!  It was a sight to be seen!  The first yacht making it's turn was the Durban 2010 and Beyond!  The Canadian boat from Nova Scotia wasn't too far behind!  Go Canada Go!

I think we just discovered our next holiday adventure!  Call us "The Captain and Elsie"!
