Today Josh competed at the Dawn of the Shred.  He did OK.  Of course I can quote many many pro skateboarders who also said, they lost their first competition as well.  All I can say was Josh had the nervous jitters during his second run, and his knees kept giving out just before a trick.
The first run went fine! He did well and landed all of his signature tricks, except at the end he slipped out on a rail grind.  Due to the lack of space, small size of lot, closely placed ramps, it was hard to find the flow in the park.  Most of the skaters just went back and forth on the two big ramps, and did tricks off the half pyramid in the center with a rail.  There was good competition there,  a lot of skaters were good.  Josh even played a makeup game of SKATE for a complete setup,  lost both rounds,  boy were the other skaters really good.  We watched the winners, and saw the prizes being handed out Shred Fest Oct 31
Shred Fest Oct 31
.  There was 300 dollars first place, 150 second, and 50 dollars in third place.  Everyone got something.  The Volcom Marketer gave us a big Volcom sticker to put on our RV, which we neglectfully should have brought to the competition to hype up Josh.  Next one, we're definitely bringing the beast with us.  The marketers could appreciate our sponsorship decals we post all over the RV.
I was not too worried about Josh's first competition.  He could have warmed up at the first two which should have taken place before the Dawn of the Shred.  Hotline Surf and Skate moved their dates to November 14th, which we already have left town for that, and WRV's competition at Mount Trashmore got rained out.  So those two were duds, forcing Josh to make 17th Street's Dawn of the Shred Josh's first competition, which mounted the pressures even more on him, and losing his chance for a prize.
Now I'm in the process of looking for more local competition in this month of November, so Josh can warm up and practice his wares, and nerves of steel, and bring his confidence back in the game.  The big one is in December during the weekend of the 3rd thru the 6th, in Tampa Florida playing at the SPOT (Skate Park of Tampa).  The second week of November, we'll drive out there, to meet the owners of the SPOT, and get a chance to skate the park, and get some introductions.
The 2nd day of November, Josh went to Paradise Skatepark, located 30 mins from Cocoa Florida.   More details on that later.   I will be busy working throughout this weekend and through next week, looking for competitions, and events we can go see related to skateboarding.

The first competition?  "Bleah"  we want a do over.   It didn't go well, but then again, there's more to come, and the initial stage fright will go away.  Heeeeerrreeeeeeee we goooooOOOOooooo!!!!!!!
