On our way to Greece

Egnatia II (en route to Greece)
Alex: Not much to say about today. We had to change trains twice on the journey from Naples to Brindisi - the first train was late, but we had 50 minutes to play with before our first connection, so we weren't more than a little concerned. The second train was late also - 25 minutes late, and we were reasonably certain of missing our next connection. But we arrived, in Foggia, with one minute to spare and managed to catch the Brindisi train by running. With 30kg backpacks, let me remind you. It was a fair walk from the train station to the waterfront at Brindisi, stopping at the customs office to get our passports stamped, and then a small boat ferried us out to the Hellenic Mediterranean Lines cruise ship Egnatia II. We waited for the best part of an hour, in the biting cold wind, before we were allowed to board, but we passed the time in animated conversation with a couple of fellow passengers - Sam (American girl) and Jackie (Australian) who both worked, for the moment, in a hostel on Corfu. We deposited our luggage in our cabin, which is small and bathroomless but comfortable, and gathered in the saloon with a few other passengers (of whom there are not many- less than 50, I would estimate!) As well as Sam and Jackie, there was another Aussie couple, Jill and Ray, and an American couple, middle-aged, with whom we had also shared the last leg of our train journey. We shared a packet of chips and drank lots of tea in an effort to suppress our hunger until the restaurant opened at 8.30pm. After a delicious, but very expensive, meal of stewed lamb & rice and Greek salad (which made a wonderfully blessed change from pizza and pasta!) we retired to bed, hoping to avoid the need for Kwells until the morning.
