Where I stayed
Twin Falls, Eliot Creek
After packing our backpacks, rolling up the mattress and folding up our tents, we all gathered for a hearty breakfast
After a fitting celebration we had the choice of climbing down the rocky path or walk down to the beach and wade through the water , back to the bus. Rick and I took the path, the rest of the crew took the crocodile infested waters. All arrived safely.
Next we headed south across the mighty Jardine River. The crossing is only 30 meters or so, cost $ 145.00 return ( not for us ) and you will cross when the indigenous locals feel like doing something. Took a bit of waiting but we got across. Our guide Mark was not happy with one of the wheels on the trailer , too wobbly it seemed, so stopped at the little outpost just over the river, jacked the thing up, tried to get the wheelbearing off, which would not budge. Lots of advice and let me try its later, we felt that we were in a bit of trouble as nothing would come loose. Along came our intrepid saviour from Tasmania, who was heading north, and spend the next hour using his expert knowledge and finally removed the bearing. What a man!!!
Because we arrived so late, we did not have a lot of daylight left to enjoy the water. Mark reassured us that we would leave later than usual the next day so we could discover all the Falls and have another swim.
Had a lovely dinner , satay chicken, sitting around a campfire, in the company of millions of stars.
Could get to like this camping lark.
