What a way to round off our trip, a night at the Emirates watching Arsenal thrash the opposition. Mind you at half time it seemed like it was not going to be a push over but the second half brought a lot of satisfaction and 5 more goals. good result. It was magic being at the Emirates tonight, Coventry were allocated 9000 seats or so and managed to make themselves heard right throughout the game. They never stopped singing and mostly slagging Arsenal, to which the crowd responded with a very loud calling out of " Who are you " repeated several times. Must admit once we kicked the first goal, Rick and I forced ourselves to join in and helped give them a bit of stick. There is something very satisfying about that. Mostly behaved ourselves and only joined in with the crowd. The Coventry fans never gave up and supported their side strongly and cheered as though they won the match when they kicked their one and only goal.
Of course our usual visit to the Greasy Spoon preceded the game . Another calorie and cholesterol friendly meal followed by the usual chocolates for half time. Can"t change that habit, if you do Arsenal will lose and that would be really bad.
We had a little time before the game to have a little look around outside the stadium. Some magic stuff outside connected with the game and players. A lovely wall photo of all the teams from 1913 to 2006, really good to see.
Feeling very pleased with ourselves we all walked to the underground again to make our way home.Home again before midnight.
Time to make our way back to Oz tomorrow, flying out of Heathrow at 2.15pm. Does not seem like 6 months since our arrival but there you go, the time has come.
As I said at the beginning, tonight was a lovely way to round off our trip. Thanks so much to Graham and Carol once again for taking us and making it so much fun. We will follow Arsenal's progress very closely and will always imagine being at the game when they play. Should be fun.
It is very hard to describe what going to the football is like at the Emirates and I can't, but all I need to say is " What a game and what a honour to see it all. You should have been there.
