Yesterday we left Portugal and headed back towards Spain . Time to look at the northern end of the country. We got as far as Pontevedra and drove towards the coast to Sanxenxon, a pretty nice place. The caravan park was a long way out so we just stayed the night there and moved on again this morning.Early on the road this morning, on the move before 8am, getting a good start before traffic increased. All going well for the first 17km, then we had to get on the freeway, not possible, road works ahead, bypass on freeway and no signs to let us know which way to go. Basil was even more confused than us. After going around in circles Rick decided to just follow the main flow of traffic and see where it would lead us. Back into Pontevedra which was not the way to go.By now Basil was getting sick of saying "recalculating" and just kept telling us to drive to high lighted route. When we felt that we were far enough away from the roadworks to get on the freeway we reset Basil , now he could tell us where to go and did it beautifully. In the meantime ,we wasted about 45minutes and our early departure was now very average. Never mind we had all day.Along our way we came through a little village called Alba, spotted a very unusual cemetry, no ground graves just concrete graves 4 or 5 high. What a good idea and so very well done. We thought this was a one off, but some a lot more along the way. Planned to stop in a little village on the Costa Verde named Cudillero which is supposed to be a very picturesque little fishing village. It meant that we had to drive through another fishing village named Luarca. No problem there until we came across a road which was closed due to the weekly markets. Of course Basil recalculated us once again. By this time we were getting thirsty and hungry, it was 1pm after all. We saw a sign indicating a caravan park, followed it and what a surprise at the end of this little road. A caravan park here on the outskirts of Luarca, situated high on the hill, ocean frontage on all sites, and a great view over the ocean as we sit here having a drink watching the boats come in the harbour. Hardly anyone here but were reassured that next month will be bedlam. The village is only a 15 minute walk from here going down hill and a 20 minute walk back.We had a little look around this afternoon but will stay here another night and walk down again tomorrow. We came across a cake shop this afternoon and could not walk by without buying a couple of cakes, they looked so nice. Could not believe it when they pulled out 2 cakes from the tray and carefully wrapped them in nice paper and tied a ribbon around it. All that for 1euro 20c. Will include the photo we took of the parcel.
So here we are , just about in paradise, purely by accident of course.Funny how things always turn out ok, all you need is a little luck now and again.
All turned out for the best today and we will enjoy our couple of days here. Might even buy another cake. It was delicious by the way.
