Sunny and warm day again today. Woke up fairly early, got up and did some washing. Rick put up our easy line ( best invention yet ) It did not take long to dry as the heat here is very dry and a lovely breeze as well this morning.
We caught the bus into Toledo at about 10.30 am. It took us to the main town plaza, called the Plaza Zocodover. It is fairly big and very busy. Toledo is celebrating a festival at the moment which will last 10 days. So far nothing very much has been happening , only a rock concert just outside the park here last Sunday night, but that was not too bad. In the Plaza they are getting ready for the main festivities and decorating all the buildings with flags and banners. It is a great sight , and we noticed today that the decorations are creeping in some of the side streets as well. We did not want to see anything in particular this time so walked around all the streets just looking at everything. We came across the main Synagogue named Sinagoga del Transito. This magnificent synagogue was build in 1355 by special permission of Pedro I . I don't know who he was but he was some sort of big deal here at that time.Construction of synagogues was banned in Christian Spain then. Toledo's Jewish quarter was once home to 11 synagogues but the bulk of Jews were tragically expelled in 1492. All part of Toledo's Jewish, Muslim and Christian history which is very complicated at at times and very cruel. We had a look inside the synagogue, beautiful and full of intricately carved wooden ceilings. It has been expertly restored and displays a good insight into the Jewish culture in Spain. A very worthwhile visit. After roaming around the city for a couple of hours it was time for some refreshments and something to eat. We planned on having a late lunch so we would only need a very light dinner, but we were not hungry enough for that so just had something light to eat. Bugger that meant cooking tea because the restaurant here is closed tonight. Found some left overs in the fridge , good enough.
Our bikie friends also spend the day in Toledo. They rode their bikes into town and when the parking inspectore saw them he directed them specially to the car park and gave them special places on the top floor. No wonder as they must make an inpression where-ever they go.
Tonight we are surrounded by 28 caravanners, all from Holland. They have taken up the whole section we are in, funny realy ,all of them and Rick and I stuck in between. We are now listening to lots of ja,ja,ja and nee, nee, nee. As long as they all go nicely to sleep by 11pm all should be good. Surely they are all too old to stay up any later. Just kidding, they are all very nice.
On the road again tomorrow, will probably go to Almegro with some stops along the way.
Nice day, wish you could join us.
