An easy trip down to Barcelona, we took the motorway so no hills or villages to look at , only 230 odd km of freeway to see. Arrived at the park just after lunch. The park is situated pretty close to the airport and yes we have planes taking off about every 2 minutes. They get rather close but not close enough to see if the planes are full. The noise is not too bad but very constant. It eases off at about 7pm and stops just after 10pm. Our campsite is handy to the bus stop, for us to catch the bus to Barcelona. This we did today, along with everybody else in the park. An interesting drive through the city and suburbs, so many roads and so many cars
Barcelona is a cross between a very stylish and modern city and the historic era which dates back to Roman times. As you disembark from the bus you see this enormous Plaza in front of you. We had to cross the Plaza to get to the tourist bureau and get some information. We wanted to walk around the old City first, which we did. It is a very nice part of the town but unfortunately it is filled with shops where ever you walk which spoils it a bit. Some nice architecture though and lovely ceramic work as well. Our next plan was to get back to the Plaza and catch a hop on hop off bus for a tour around the city, we walked along the main drag in order buy a ticket and get on these busus. We thought we would be early enough to get a seat on the open top section as well. Once again we could not be more wrong. Outside the bus departure stops ( and there are six of them ) were queues up to 500 metres long. Remember those 20 million tourists that followed us last year, well they have multiplied so now we have 40 million tourists following us through Barcelona Plan B had to be activated which was to walk to some more attractions , have a cuppa and get the heck out of the city.To be fair to Barcelona it is a beautiful city , very modern in parts, totally neglected in other parts and more shops everywhere than any other city. Oh and the beggars are everywhere, both male and female. I think you either love it or just want to stay away from it..Caught the bus back to the campground again and were glad to put our feet up. It was time to try the wine and for Rick to have a cold beer, we have earned it.
Tomorrow we are heading further south but only 100km or so.The weather is lovely and warm with cool nights, just perfect
