Earlier start than normal today, we just woke up a little earlier and decided to make a start because we had to drive through more Alpine regions, which always takes more time. Sunny morning this morning which is always a good start. Had our usual banana for breakfast, we only have that so we can buy a fresh baguette somewhere in a village on the way and have an early lunch. Once again our plan for all this went well. Found a lovely little bakery somewhere in France , this time I only spoke French , basic but was understood just the same. When it comes to food we get by pretty good thank you. I think I should add beer and wine to that as well.
Our trip today was to leave Gap , take the toll road to Chateau-Amoux and then the scenic road to Grasse. This road is 136km long and curls itself around very high alps. We were not disappointed at all. At times we were up so high that you felt there was nothing higher. Some of the roads were very close to the edge of the mountain, too eerie to look down even. At one particular look- out ,we stopped to take a look around. Another car stopped as well and Rick and I did the usual " bonjour" greeting which was responded with a very American " hello ". They were from Florida and are travelling through France for 3 weeks. Nice to chat with them. One couple had also been to Australia and knew where Cairns is. Soon enough it was time to be on our way and tackle the rest of the mountain. While driving along a parachutist suddenly appeared in front of us, he was almost too close for comfort. Unfortunately I could not get the camera out quick enough to take a photo, it would have made a fantastic photo.Must remember to be on the ready at all times.
Our campsite for the next couple of night is in a little place called Le Bar-Sur-Loup and is about 7km from Grasse. We do not know an awful lot about this city but will find out more tomorrow. We will be catching the bus to town so  will see what it brings. Our American friends suggested we stay and have a look around  because there is so much to see there. Will let you know tomorrow. We are presently very close to Nice and will visit the area in a couple of days. Monaco is off the list because we were informed that they are getting ready for the Grand Prix. Also the Cannes Film Festival is supposed to be on so will probably give that a miss as well. Nice will be enough for us anyway.
Guess what, for the first time this trip we are wearing shorts and T Shirts. A little cool this evening but ok.
We had a good day today with some very nice scenery thrown in. You should have been there.

well you are in the world's capital of perfume

lots to do there:
Grasse's main attraction is the Cathedral, dedicated to Notre Dame du Puy and founded in the 11th century.

In the interior, are three works by Rubens and one by Jean-Honoré Fragonard, a French painter native of the town.

Other sights include:
Saracen Tower, standing at 30 m.
monumental gate of the Hôtel de ville
Fragonard Museum, established in 1921
International Museum of Perfume
Musée d'Art et d'Histoire de Provence
Church of Placassier, built in 1644

have fun :)
