Yesterday 4/5/12 ,  we said goodbye to our dear friends Frank and Marion in Pinneberg. We had a lovely few days , thouroughly enjoyed ourselves every moment . Said our farewells just after 10am. We were on our way once again. Next stop Groningen, Holland. The weather was  a bit drab so we decided to take the major highways this time , and just get there. It cleared up a bit during the morning , stopped for a cuppa half way through our journey and the compulsary toilet stop. arrived at our designated campsite just after 1pm, took a good look at it and turned the car around, lets get out of there. It all looked so drab and not a dry site in sight. Asked Basil Garmin for a few other sites. We tried the first one on the list which turned out to be a very good one. Happy travellers once more. Stayed for just one night this time.
5/5/12  . Slept in a bit this morning. Had a lovely hot shower to start the day with.

The evenings and mornings are pretty cold but we have got the little pommie fan heater which is serving us well each day. We wanted only to travel on country roads today, so selected no major roads on Basil , he did not let us down. We drove through the most gorgeous scenery at times. Lots of left and right turns of course but each one was worth it. We were lost once, when we came across a detour but somehow Rick managed to get out of it ok. We even had to get on a ferry to cross the Yssel river, you can take the freeway and not bother but we thought it would be unique and something different. It was a very very very short crossing but good just the same. We noticed that a lot of houses were flying the Dutch flag and we did wonder what it was all about . When we stopped for some lunch in a cafe we asked the owner what this was all about. It seems that it is a day of celebration in Holland today which I should have remembered really, because we celebrated this day when I was a kid. Today is the day that Holland was liberated from the German occupation during WWII , a day they celebrate every year and is very much a part of their  history. It is lovely to see so many flags flying so proudly.
We only intended to stay here for one night but the park is nice and the owner convinced us to do a bit of sight seeing. So tomorrow we are off to do just that.
It is raining now but it is the end of the day and we are as snug as a bug in Charlie.

Those new windmills just don't do it for me. The old ones are so much nicer and inviting
