Had a lovely day with Ingrid yesterday, shopping for Rick's jacket which was a great success. We all went to lunch at the Japanese restaurant up the road .Suzi performed her beauty therapist skills on me in the afternoon which was just the best. I am sad to say that it took her 2 hours to make me look stunningly beautiful. Suddenly it was time to go to the airport as we had to be on our way to Dubai. The girls dropped us off and we said our goodbyes. All good so far. Checked our luggage in . All good still. Proceeded to customs, all ok again. Sat down waiting for our flight, waited and waited and waited. We were supposed to board at 8.15pm, listened to numerous delay calls and apologies, and that the engineers are working on the slight technical problem. We were happy to sit there and wait, it is a safety thing with us. Finally at midnight we were informed that the flight had been cancelled . We already knew that because Ingrid kept us better informed with all the details posted on the internet. Phoned Ingrid and after much mucking around with custom clearances ( god knows why because we had not left the airport ) and rescuing our luggage, she came and picked us up. Not a very good start but at least we are safe. It seemed that a bird flew into one of the engines and did a lot of damage. I realy feel that they would have known earlier that the plane would not be able to take off with so much damage. Never mind we were the lucky ones being able to get picked up because a lot of people had to queue up for hotel vouchers and food vouchers.
So this afternoon at 3pm we will resume with our plans and have another go at this trip. One thing I have learned is that airports are not a party venue.
Still, it was nice to spend a little extra time here.
