First thing this morning we drove to the village motor mechanic just to check Charlie out because she was making a bit of a knocking noise. Nothing to worry about, just some wear and tear and not to panic as she would not need any fixing at all and wait till you get back home. He said we would be fine and it would not break down, also the engine was in good condition. decided to take his word for it and carried on to visit the township of Todtnau. This meant going 1500 metres above sea level but oh it was just so worth it. We actually carried on from there to the village of Feldburg which is about 14km from there and a little higher as well. a beautiful scenic drive to the top of the world. Had a coffee when we got there and just sat there and took it all in
. It is very much a winter skiing area and everyone is getting ready for that time. Drove back to Todtnau, parked the car and walked around the town. Not too much there but the whole village survives on tourism and the ski lift and taboggan track it has. This also runs during the summer and is very popular. We did not go on it as you go up on the lift and come back on the taboggan track. Not enough guts to do that and as the alternative was to walk down we felt just a few photos would be enough for us.Drove back to the caravan park , had some lunch and did the washing instead. The location of this park is just so nice, every morning we go to the farm across the road and have a look at the dairy and the cows being milked. We can also get some fresh milk if we want it but have not enough fridge space to keep it otherwise we would. We talk to the farmer every morning, he does not speak english and we do not speak a lot of german but we get along very nicely thank you. When he sees us he says " ah australia and hop hop kangaroos which we think means " how are you going" We talk for about 10minutes and then go our seperate ways. Always puts you in a good frame of mind. We should come back here in the winter as he, apart from the park , also has units attached to the dairy and would be a good place to stay and see what happens here in the winter. One thing is for sure you will be warm as there are so many wood stacks everywhere.
Relaxed and had a few drinks before dinner. For all you big drinkers back in Oz, you are getting ripped off, a stubby here cosrs about 28cent australian and a good french wine is never more than $2 a bottle. The downside of this is that panadol cost nearly $10 a packet. all things even out eventually. Only kidding about the price of panadol, have not bought any yet .
Tomorrow we are going to catch a bus and a train and visit the city of Freiburg.
Another very good day today.
Oh Ingrid after your comment of not enough photos on one blog I am so tempted to put every photo we took today on there, but have decided to spare you the pain of your dad just clicking away at everything he sees.
