Were at a bit of a loss this morning as where to go before our visit to our friends in Hamburg tomorrow. Once again our trusted Lonely Planet guide helped us out and suggested a visit to Hameln famous for its legend The Pied Piper of Hamlin. Most of the way there was via the motorway which is not very exciting but the last 45 minutes  were on country roads. It was a sunny day today which of course helped heaps.Found a caravan park close to the town however bookings close between 12md and 2.30pm so we had some time to kill. The owners of the park were kind enough to let us park Charlie Helios in the car park and showed us a short cut to the town which was well within walking distance.
Hameln is a lovely town with heaps of history, the story of the pied piper is known to most people, what I did not know was that it all started in 1284. The legend has been translated into approx 30 languages , up to the present it has not been possible to shed any light on the exact details but the story is a nice one all the same. A visit to the Hameln Museum is a must as it has lots of detail on it all plus it is a lovely building to visit and serves good coffee. The whole town has been reconstructed between 1969 and 1993, boy they did a good job. All together it takes about 1 hour to walk through the town but be prepared to get a sore neck as the buildings are superb from top to bottom.
Walked back to the park, the owners showed us to our site and here we are sitting in the restaurant having a beer and wine. A perfect finish to a interesting day.
Tomorrow Pinnenburg where we will meet up with our German friends for the first time in 11 years. We met them in Airlie Beach nearly 20 years ago and have always kept in touch. See you in Pinnenburg.
