No WIFI last night, couldn't connect to it , better this morning. Woke up yesterday morning to rain, wind and cold.Pretty miserable and not very encouraging. Ingrid called on Skype early which made us feel a lot better. Nice to see you again Ing, keep smiling.
Confirmed origins of Longnor can be traced back to the 1223 although there are records of activity in the area from the days of the Saxon Kings around 700AD.A very interesting village to visit.
Next stop Buxton, also very old but very much bigger and is a busy place.A few interesting landmarks as well.We once again stopped in a butcher shop to buy the compulsary pork pie and had a good chat to the butcher. A bit of a character of his own but very friendly indeed. Come to think of it so far everyone has come across as friendly and helpful. Visited the tourist information pavilion, yes it is an enormous pavilion, historic of course. They also had a farmer's market in there . One stall was full of cheeses, bingo Rick got his pork pies and I got my local cheeses ( more than one of course). Now we are both fulfilled.
Drove on to Bakewell, very touristy there although a nice village. Did not last too long there because it is an diddicult place to drive in and soooooooo many people it puts you off a bit.Decided instead to visit Chatsworth House which is very much like a castle and has been in the Cavendish family since the 1500's. Everything in there and the building itself is very hard to describe but it all is very beautiful . A lot of restoration work is happening at the moment as well. Must cost a fortune to maintain. On our way home again by 5.30pm, called in the pub for a swift half and bought some fish and chips for tea. Rick had mushy peas with his.
A good day .
