At last Tuesday the 22nd arrived. Did some last minute packing before our dear friends John and Rene came to pick us up to take us to the airport.
booked our boarding passes for the Cairns-Brisbane journey and waited for our flight. Good journey and best of all our daughter Ingrid and our grand children Zac and Samantha greeted us and took us to the international airport. Had a lovely hour with them before we had to say goodbye and catch our flight to Dubai.Take off was a little late but not too bad. Emirates Airlines treated us very well, it was a good flight but oh so long. Fourteen and a half hours should only be flown in first class and we will attend to this later. Arrived safe and well at 4:30 am ( yes am ) Our hotel had organised a escort for us at the airport so that procedure was easy. Luckily enough we were able to book in at that ungodly hour so could catch 40 winks before we hit the town. Wrong again, wide awake both of us.
Made a cuppa and decided to hit new Dubai with all its pomp and glory. Hopped in a taxi which is easy as they are everywhere. They all look the same with 5 different coloured roofs. This denotes the various cab companies. . Dubai has a population of 1.7 million people, yet it does not have a very busy feel about it. There are new high rises going up everywhere.
Decided to take a look inside the biggest shopping centre in the world. We walked around forever and only covered the ground floor. No we will not go back to look at the rest, we are here for a good time not a hard time. Very few people walking around there though.
Our main aim for the day was to visit Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. Awesome, fantastic, amazing etc etc.Hard to explain and can only be experienced. The observation deck is on the 124th floor . It makes every other building look so small and some of them are over 70 stories high. we are so glad we made the effort despite feeling buggered.
Easy afternoon ahead of us, will go down to the restaurant for dinner and have an early night.
UK tomorrow.
