After an afternoon turkey dinner with all the trimmings ( American  thanksgiving), am  feeling a tad lethargic so thought I'd send a little update.   Can't really remember where I left off but am pretty sure it was around Jekyll Island.  We took a couple days to travel through Georgia and into Florida.  Found a nice spot in Mexico Beach, Florida where the sand is so white it looks like snow - all the houses along the beach are on stilts due to all the flooding - not real pretty but necessary I guess.  From there we travelled into Alabama (Biloxi) and kinda whizzed right through the tail end of Mississippi as there was no real destination that attracted us there.

We made it to New Orleans and stayed on Lake Pontchartrain which was only a 10 minute ride to the French Quarter.  The park had a shuttle that dropped you off around 10 and picked up in the evening.  We started the day at a huge public market that took an hour or two to go through then hit the famous Cafe du Monde for the obligatory cafe au lait and beignets Balconies on Bourbon Stree
Balconies on Bourbon Stree
.  Delish!  Walked our buns off (maybe just enough to burn off the high calorie beignets) and by 3 had to stop for a glass of wine at an outdoor cafe.  Street art is everywhere with lots of galleries featuring local arts and crafts.  (Plenty of t shirt shops and tourist crap as well) Found Bourbon Street where a street entertainer yelled at me for taking his picture and not putting any money in his bucket - what do I know -I'm just a yokel from Chemainus.   People wander around on that street with drinks in hand - doesn't seem to be any restrictions as there was police on every corner so guess it's tolerated.  Can't imagine what it's like during Mardi Gras. We ended the day at the Bayou Restaurant for some jumbalaya, crawfish pie and file gumbo and topped it off with the most delectable bread pudding with bourbon sauce.

The next day was a trip to the Bayou for an airboat ride through the swamp hopefully to see some alligators.  We weren't disappointed.  It was terrific. Saw plenty of gators, an armidillo and these horrid big rat things called nutrias- big as beavers.    Anyways it was great fun and glad we sprung for the tour.

We arrived in Houston last Thursday and had a really nice visit with my Sister Linda.  On the advice of some people we barely met in a campsite in Charleston,  we are now in Donna, Texas - in the Rio Grande Valley - temperature is in the 80's and the golf is included in our site.  (360.00 for the month -can't beat that).   It's a small park and close to everything so we're glad we took their advice.  Hope everyone is well at home.  Rick & Donna
