woohoo - another day here. Last night we had huge thunderstorms with the loudest thunder I have ever experienced waking me at 3am. I gripped Richard's back but his comforting snores sent me off to sleep sooner than I had dared to hope. In the morning we were dismayed to see it raining outside so ordered room service and lounged in bed until it stopped, which only took until midday so it was a reasonable lie in! Apprently the hotel across the road had so much water in the ca park it was moving cars around! Ours was fine though, thankfully. Richard was awake longer than me and said the fork lightning was amazing.
After a strenuous morning lying in bed, the sun coming out could only mean one thing - time to hang by the pool. We managed to find a shady spot and lathered ourselves in sun cream. The waitresses started in tracksuit bottoms and vest tops then suddenly changed into gold bikinis - magic! We alternated warming our bodies in the sun with dipping in the cool pool and the hot spa pool, drinking water and snoozing. We realised we haven't spent time doing this since the cruise in 2005 so it was a long overdue poolside afternoon and absolute heaven. We saw a couple having their wedding photos by the pool - inciting tuts at the tackiness from both of us. We're such wedding snobs now!!!!
In the evening we drove to Johnny Rocket's on a recommendation from Liz - a really cool retro diner with mini jukeboxes on the table. The food was incredible and because we had a milkshake each (which comes with a free refill!!!) we really struggled to finish it! I had Oreo Cookie and Cream flavour and Richard had banana - both of which were easily the best shakes ever. The waitress gave us the jukebox money! Then at the end she got me a glass which I could keep even though they're not supposed to - I said I'd seen them on TV back home (not a huge lie as Liz did and she recommended them to us) and I think that swung it!
Then we did a proper cruise around the strip and it's surrounds to see all ther lights and sights - most of which I videoed! It was great fun! I've given up for the evening and come up to bed, leaving Richard with the slot machines and his credit card - uh oh! It's hard to believe we're leaving here tomorrow - it doesn't feel as though there's a world outside this hotel, let alone the town! More thumbnails ...

Crazy Las Vegas!! (reply) Aug 28, 2007 04:10 EST by lizianjosh
Great stuff travellers - isn't it the craziest place on earth?? There isn't anything like it anywhere - a surreal oddity in the middle of a desert - who would do a thing like that?? Have a great time.
Hope you enjoyed the apocalyptic storm!
