We departed early from FJ and made our way down the coast. Stopping at Lake Moeraki for a tramp into the jungle to Monro Beach in the hope of seeing Fiordland penguins. We broke out of the bush to the beach and found a big rock to sit on and wait, and wait, and wait. Just as we decided that the penguins were not coming out to play and we were packing up our stuff, we glanced up the beach and saw two of the blighters discussing the weather, the bledisloe cup result or some-such. Ellie managed to snap some pretty cool photos as one of the black and white fellas slipped into the frothy brine and another appeared from the rocks to join his mate. Eventually they both went into the sea and we returned to the car to continue onto Wanaka.
