Day 88

17 July 2013

About a sea organ and "beauty is in the eye of the beholder".

Sea Organ

Yesterday , after writing my Blog I  took the 4.2km ride into Zadar town and parked the bike outside the city gates as the city beyond  the gates is off limits to traffic. For reasons best known to themselves the city council (I presume) has created something I had not seen or rather” heard” before.

On sea side  a sea organ has been  created by means of various size tubes which are positioned  under the pavement with one open end facing the sea and the other ending under the pavement about three meters from the water's edge

When waves hit the tubes they produce a sound  resembling a large organs. Unusual  as it is  it attracts a lot of people just sitting on the steps facing the sea and listening to the sounds. Perhaps if they would have positioned them in a certain order they may even be able to produce a tune but as it is, the sounds are random. Right next to it, also fitted in the pavement are large glass tiles under which shine a variety of ever changing coloured lights.  People are walking over them to observe to color and patterns and no doubt the little children are mesmerized by it all.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

On the program today was a visit to Plitvice ( sounds like Plitvitz) Lakes and Waterfalls which are located about 150 km NW of Zadar. I had been there once before but only visited the main waterfall. Today the others were visited  and by others I mean that there are several dozen waterfalls  in the national park. The water is crystal clear with lots of fish everywhere. To get there, the rocky coastal roads need to be followed first.  The roads twists and turns for around 80 km as on this whole section there is but one tunnel. The rest of the road follows the contours of the rocks. A motorcyclist’s paradise.

Next comes a 1400 meter pass with only a few straight bits in it. Lake Plitvice and surroundings…I can see no more  than the title suggests. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I was the beholder and I thought it was absolutely beautiful. You can say indescribable so I won’t go on with trying to explain any of it.  Just look at the picture and see if you agree. (You don’t have to)

Note that every picture was taken in a different location

Still haven’t spotted a Dalmatian.
