OK........ where to start.

We arrived in the adventure capital in the evening and made our way to the Top 10 camping site so we could actually have a hot shower and YES plug in our heater. Actually it has not been that cold here yet. All I keep telling myself as I climb into bed with my hot water bottle every night (yes first purchase for New Zealand, Vic here by the way) is, "it's not as cold as China". Well enough of the insights into our honeymoon night times and back to Queenstown.......

Nice place, friendly people, great food, nice bars, excellent scenery seen from the top of the cable car ride.....

....oh and of course DEATH-DEFYING ACTIVITIES.

Richard, of course was chomping at the bit to get himself (and me if he could trick me into it) into some horrendous cliff hanging situation as soon as possible. With some sweet talking (and my own stupid competitiveness "well if he can do it of course I can") he booked us onto the canyon swing for the next day. Yes that's exactly what I thought - swing over a canyon how hard can it be, after all I've snorkelled with 3 metre sharks, zip-lined at 300ft and climbed Mt Kinabalu - bring on the canyon swing!!

One of the best mottoes inscribed on someoneīs picture at the canyon swing 'Hall of Fame' was "Even my shit was scared" and I think these 5 little words summed up my experience to a tee!!

Canyon swing instructions:
1. Get strapped into a full body harness
2. Get attached to an extremely long cable
3. Stand on platform overhanging very deep canyon
4. Get ridiculed by guys working there
5. Look over the edge
6. Throw yourself or be thrown, pushed, strung up and released, over the edge
7. Free fall for 60m eventually swinging for a further 150m across the canyon very near the bottom
8. Do it one more time FOR CHARITY!!!!!

This might give an idea of the height:

Being winched back up.....

Yes my shit was scared!! And that was just me ...... Rich had to go the extra step. For his second jump he chose the 'Gimp boy goes to Hollywood', sounds nice hey?!
(The thing on his bum is a Gimp teddy)
This consisted of being strung up, upside down, eyes pointing to the canyon floor (where there happened to be a group of white-water rafters passing by), swung out over the canyon and then released at the whim of the sadistic controller!!!!!

You can see both of us in action on the videos we uploaded for this entry. You can hear how heavy my breathing was whilst filming Rich - I was still in shock from mine - yes he made me go first!!!

The regulars did some very weird stuff ....... yes this guy is wearing a dustbin over his head!!??? (They called this jump the Bin Laden!)

Queenstown is a beautiful place and coupled with the amazing array of crazy activities you can do itīs a great place to visit.

Next we headed to Milford Sound...
