We got up early and got the subway up to Universal City!
Awesome place, and set up, kinda like Movie World but way better!
We decided on doing the Studio Tour first, so we didnt miss out later on if it got too busy. It was really cool, went through heaps of studio lots, some that were in use (cause it was sunday no one was filming which meant we got to see more than usual). We got to see what theyve rebuilt so far of the sets that were burnt down in the fires last year - the area is huge!
Heaps of the sets have been used in heaps of movies, just filmed different so no one notices! Such as a giant pool with a blue giant wall behind it, they filmed ocean scenes there, such as Apollo 13, Bruce Almighty, Evan Almighty, Jaws and heaps more!
We went through Wysteria Lane! The houses are just empty shells, but very cool all the same!!! Although the street looks exactly like it does on TV! Even all the cars were in the driveways!
We saw the Plane Crash set from War of the Worlds! Very cool! it was an actual plane that they bought and destroyed!
The first ride we went on was The Simpson's ride which is brand new, its like an extreme motion master and feels like a roller coaster! was really awesome and cool! Sideshow bobs trying to kill everyone! Everything was themed simpsons, 'Krustyland' and was just extreme! They had 'Best Simpsons Moments' playing while you waited in line! It was Leights favourite ride!!
We went and watched Waterworld, which is a show with actors doing crazy stunts on jetskis and ropes and heaps of fire and explosions etc!
The next ride we went on was The Mummy, which was Richs favourite, a crazy roller coaster inside one of the warehouses, that went up and down, on its side, backwards and round and round. It even stayed his favourite after we went on it a second time and the ride stopped and we got stuck at the exit with the bars stuck down for about 15 minutes. they gave us hush money, nah just a one use front of the line pass for one ride! - awesome.
We also did the log flume styled Jurrasic Park ride which was cool!
On the way down to the lower lot, rich decided to take the stairs instead of the escalator, it was just aswell because just as we were about to go down, John Stamos (Uncle Jessie from full house, now on ER) walked past, hiding himself behind his sunnies and had a hat pulled down trying to cover his face, we chased him through the park and asked him for a picture he pulled us over behind the bush so no one would see and he was really nice, took the picture and shook our hands and said Kiwis were great peeps! Pretty sure we were the only ones who noticed it was him! haha!
Spent some time looking at all the crazy shops and bought some souvineirs, made sure we had seen all the things that needed to be seen, but after nearly 9 hours we were ready to go home!
A very cool day!
