Sorrento was a welcomed change to all the noise, pollution and bustle of Naples.  The town is very much a tourist package based resort and it very much reminded us of a Noosa/Surfers/Broadbeach blend and we actually really liked it.  We used the town as a base to visit the Amalfi Coast and also to visit Capri. The bus servicing the Amalfi coast is very efficient and runs every half an hour outside of siesta times on the weekends.  The bus ride itself is a 1.5 hour thrill-ride of hairpin turns on a skinny coastal road that hug the cliffs up high and above the Amalfi Coast.  On our first afternoon we were able to take the bus from Sorrento all the way to the small town of Amalfi, which was very beautiful, even though it was packed with tourists.  From Amalfi we were able to catch another quick bus up to the small romantic village of Ravello that was in the hills up above Amalfi.  The famous composer Richard Wagner spent a bit of time in this village and he was apparently when asked his favourite place in the world, he replied Ravello; where the Mediterranean is so blue that when you look out to the water you cannot see where the sky meets the sea 01

.  The following day we caught the same Amalfi bus but jumped off at the small but uber-popular village of Positano.  This place was ridiculously beautiful and we could not stop taking photos but like most of these places, the photos don't quite capture the overwhelming assault on the senses.  After traipsing around Positano, which was fuelled by more than our fair share of fresh lemon ice slushees, we caught the ferry to Capri the following day.  We had the intention of getting to Capri at 09:00 and leaving by 13:00 because the ferries take a siesta until 15:00 but we started what we thought was a nice short scenic walk and it ended up being a 3 hour long scenic trek!  We were sweating bucketloads from busting our guts going up and down steps in 34 degree weather but we laughed it off, although maybe we were suffering from heat stroke because when we finally got back to the center of Capri we looked more like we'd spent a week in Afghanistan and must have looked really funny standing next to the beautiful European resort crowd in their linen Armani suits and Gucci dresses.
