Well after a 20 hour painful journey we find ourselves deep in the Bolivian jungle at a place called Rurrenabaque about to head into the jungle for three days, the bus ride was one of those more memorable ones for all the wrong reasons, huge shear drop offs, seat issues, inability to get the over counter diazepam we thought we could etc, etc, basically a one-way road and we were sharing it with big ass trucks, every now and then we had to back up and you know when the locals start banking on the roof to indicate we are a little close to the edge things must be a little dicey, still once the sun goes down we may as well be on state highway one.
Since the last blog we have made our way through Peru into Boliva, we trekked the Santa Cruz trek a moderate 4 day trek through the Andes, walking up an amazing glacial valley to the high pass of about 4700m above sea level, pretty amazing scenery all around, including the peak used in the paramount pictures introduction trailer, see pic
From there we headed to Huacachina an oasis in with massive sand dunes which we bordered and cruised round on a massive dune bugie type thing which the local driver threw round the dunes, was great fun. Another long bus took us to Puno on the Peruvian Bolivian boarder where we visited the famous floating islands, locals build these islands to float on the massive lake Titicaca, they say they did it to escape the Inca..... anyway now a massive tourist attraction, and very commercial but worth the look. Then we headed to La Paz, seems like a very cool place, at the height of about 3800 takes a little getting used to a couple of flights of stairs gets the heart going. We are heading back there for the weekend after the jungle, have splurged for the flight back, meant to be a good party place and will enjoy a few wets to celebrate NZ beating Paraguay and making the next 16.
From there we heading back to Peru and on to Cuzco and Mucho Pichu, not walking the Inca trail but may do another small trek to take in the ruins if we have time, from there to Lima and then to Costa Rica to meet Hannah parents for 5 days on the beach.
Hope everyone is well
Go the mighty all whites!!!
