Annie wanted to walk through some corn so we stopped by the farm in Lexington. She also got to experience picking green beans and then snapping and canning them when we arrived home.
Our final picture of this leg was of Erin and Annie at the sign that began the trip with Reece and Rhett.
Ten days after arriving home from our Route 66 trip west we traveled the next leg of the trip from Joliet back to Bloomington. We traveled by train to Joliet to meet Erin and Annie. Because the heat index was to be 104 degrees we opted to not drive in to Chicago and follow Route 66 south instead. Our first stop was in Joliet at the Rich and Creamy ice cream shop where you can find "the Blues Brothers" dancing atop the building. We tried to see the old Joliet prison from there but couldn't find it. Our next stop was to take a picture of the Gemini Giant at the Launching Pad Drive In in Wilmington. It is one of the three "Giants" in Illinois. The Drive in is now closed so we had to travel on south to find our lunch. We stopped at Becker's Marathon Station in Dwight, a 1933 station, formally "Ambler's Texaco." We passed one of the Meramec Caverns signs along 66 south of Odell.
